The area of Study "Journey" is a Conceptual study, requiring students to investigate ways in which concepts of the journey are considered and expressed through various different types of texts. For the assessment to be completed effectively, students must reflect on their observations of  the depicted characters (for example America from the Selection), events (such as World War II), societies (for example the greater community) but also ideas and themes that  are present in their related or chosen texts. Students must also question their observations on the consequences of how the text has been constructed and ways of linking their own journeys. They must also show an understanding of the way they perceive the world around them but most importantly formulating theories from their beliefs.

Students must also explore the concepts of a journey, involving them to explore how a literary form depicts a physical (holiday, fitness), emotional (maturity, religious) and imaginative (dreams, goals) journey and their ramifications. Though journeys involve various different obstacles, which will allow an individual to extend and learn more about themselves and the world around them. Students must, therefore, challenge their thinking by examining various concepts of a journey but will also be required to reflect on the ways a journey influences them and the world around them.
